As a Unitarian Universalist congregation, we have as many answers to “What is the role of Deity at SJF?” as there are members of our fellowship. Each member of the fellowship is encouraged to search out their own answer to this and similar questions. However, because the form of worship we have chosen at SJF is Earth-Centered Spirituality which is rooted in Paganism, Deity plays a large part in many of our services, celebrations and workings. Many different Deities may be called for many different reasons and from many different systems, paths or pantheons.
Some of the various Roles of Deity includes:
- Patron – lending us inspiration, wisdom and energy through out the year.
- Guardians – asked to watch and guard a working
- Lord and / or Lady – to aid us in our exploration of an issue or in a task.
- Honored Guest – at a Celebration or during a service on a topic close to their heart.
- And more
Sometimes Deity is called to help us set Sacred Space. Other times they are invoked or evoked as the ritual team thinks is appropriate to the individual ritual.
